If you want business email on your own domain without paying for every person, LotsMail is the Fastmail alternative I built. It charges per domain: Starter is $5 a month for one domain, with unlimited mailboxes and people. If you need calendars, contacts and desktop or phone mail apps, Fastmail is strong at those and I say so below. Here is how the options compare, with every competitor fact opened on their own pages on 4 Nov 2026.

I'm the founder of LotsMail, so I'll lead with where it wins and keep the rest of the picture straight.

## Quick answer: which one fits

| If you want | Look at |
|---|---|
| Everyone on your own domain for one flat price | [LotsMail](https://lotsmail.to/pricing) |
| Calendars, contacts and mail apps, paid per user | Fastmail, Google Workspace, Zoho Mail |
| A flat account fee for many domains and mailboxes | Migadu, Purelymail, LotsMail |
| Your own ChatGPT or Claude working in the inbox | [LotsMail](https://lotsmail.to/mcp) |

## What a team of 10 pays, Fastmail versus LotsMail

Fastmail charges per user. LotsMail charges per domain, and a domain includes unlimited mailboxes, addresses and people. Prices checked on 4 Nov 2026 on [Fastmail's pricing page](https://www.fastmail.com/pricing/) and [LotsMail's pricing page](https://lotsmail.to/pricing).

| | Fastmail Standard | LotsMail Starter |
|---|---|---|
| Unit | per user | per domain |
| Price | $5 per user a month on yearly billing, $6 on monthly | $5 a month or $50 a year |
| 10 people | $50 a month yearly ($60 monthly) | $5 a month |
| 25 people | $125 a month yearly ($150 monthly) | $5 a month |
| Storage | 60 GB per user | 10 GB per domain, shared by its mailboxes |
| Sending | see Fastmail's page | 1,000 sent emails a month per domain |
| Calendar and contacts | yes | no calendar |
| Mail apps | yes, third-party apps on Standard | no, browser inbox on phone, tablet and computer |

Fastmail also lists Basic at $4 per user monthly ($3 yearly) and Professional at $10 monthly ($9 yearly). Standard and Professional include custom domains. Basic does not. The storage line matters: if each person keeps tens of gigabytes of mail, per-user storage is a real reason to pay per user. For a small team that lives in a browser, sharing 10 GB per domain is usually plenty, and adding people never adds a seat charge.

## Why I built LotsMail around the domain

I built LotsMail because per-seat email gets expensive the moment a team grows or a business adds role addresses. One domain is one unit. Everything on it is included:

- Unlimited mailboxes, addresses and teammates, with no per-person charge.
- Group addresses like team@ and sales@ in Console, Groups, where each person gets their own copy in their own inbox. Groups are included on every plan.
- Shared inboxes with access set per mailbox, for people and for agents.
- A full web inbox on phone, tablet and computer.
- Starter at $5 a month ($50 a year) for 1 domain, Pro at $20 a month ($200 a year) for 5 domains, Business at $60 a month ($600 a year) for 20 domains with white-label on every domain. With no plan, pay as you go is $6 per domain a month.

More on how the pricing works is in [LotsMail pricing explained](https://lotsmail.to/blog/lotsmail-pricing-explained), and the head-to-head with Fastmail is in [LotsMail vs Fastmail](https://lotsmail.to/blog/lotsmail-vs-fastmail).

## Where Fastmail is stronger

Fastmail is a good email service, and I'd tell you to stay if these matter more than the bill:

- **Calendar and contacts.** Shared calendars and a shared company address book on Standard and Professional.
- **Mail apps.** Standard and Professional list third-party app access, such as Outlook and iPhone Mail.
- **Trial.** Its business page offers a 30-day trial and says no credit card is required.
- **Switching help.** The business page says to migrate your mail, calendars and contacts.
- **Domains.** Per [Fastmail's account limits page](https://www.fastmail.help/hc/en-us/articles/1500000277382-Account-limits), plans other than Basic allow 100 custom domains plus 1 for every user.

LotsMail has no calendar and no desktop or phone mail apps over IMAP and SMTP. If you must use Outlook or Apple Mail, or you need old mail and calendar moved together, Fastmail is the better pick.

## The other alternatives, checked today

| Provider | How it charges | What its own page says (checked on 4 Nov 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| [Google Workspace](https://workspace.google.com/pricing) | per user | Annual commitment is labeled "Save 16%". Storage is 30 GB per user on Starter, 2 TB on Standard, 5 TB pooled per user on Plus. The page says you can try it for 14 days and caps these plans at 300 users. |
| [Zoho Mail](https://www.zoho.com/mail/zohomail-pricing.html) | per user | Mail Lite and Mail Premium are annual only ("No monthly plan"). Workplace plans bill monthly or annually. A forever-free plan covers up to 5 users on one domain with 5 GB each, without IMAP, POP or ActiveSync. |
| [Migadu](https://www.migadu.com/pricing/) | per account, not per mailbox | Mini is $9 a month ($90 a year) with 1,000 incoming and 100 outgoing a day and 30 GB. Standard is $29 ($290) with 3,000 and 500 a day and 100 GB. Maxi is $99 ($990) with 10,000 and 2,000 a day and 500 GB. Unlimited addresses, and usage counts across all your domains. |
| [Purelymail](https://purelymail.com/pricing) | per account | "$10 a year" simple pricing, with no hard limits on users, custom domains or storage. Heavy use may need its advanced pricing. |

Google and Zoho show per-user prices that load on their pages, so use their pages for the current number. If you want the longer picture on each, I wrote [Google Workspace alternatives](https://lotsmail.to/blog/google-workspace-alternatives-for-business-email), [Zoho Mail alternatives](https://lotsmail.to/blog/zoho-mail-alternatives) and [Proton Mail alternatives](https://lotsmail.to/blog/proton-mail-alternatives-for-business-email).

## Which one for whom

**Business owners.** If you use a free address today and want something professional, LotsMail Starter gives your whole business addresses on your own domain for $5 a month. If you need a calendar next to it, Fastmail or Zoho are the natural fit. My guide to [getting custom domain email](https://lotsmail.to/blog/how-to-get-custom-domain-email) walks through the steps.

**Founders and growing teams.** Per-user pricing grows with every hire. Per-domain pricing doesn't, so a 10 or 25 person team stays at the domain price. If your team already works in ChatGPT or Claude, LotsMail connects through MCP and REST, you choose read, draft or send access per mailbox, and sending by agents is off until you turn it on. For startup numbers see [business email for startups](https://lotsmail.to/blog/best-business-email-for-startups).

**Agencies.** One domain per client is where the per-domain model fits: Pro covers 5 domains at $20 a month and Business covers 20 at $60 a month with white-label on every domain. White-label means the webmail shows your name and logo, and the domain's MX and DNS records point at LotsMail. Each client gets its own workspace, and mailbox users sign in free with no Lots account. Fastmail allows many domains too, but you pay per user.

## Moving off Fastmail

1. Add your domain in LotsMail and add the DNS records it shows you. You keep your DNS provider and website.
2. Create your addresses, groups and shared inboxes.
3. Copy old mail with Import mail, which works from Gmail, Google Workspace, Zoho, Yahoo or any host with IMAP using an app password.
4. Point the domain's mail to LotsMail when you're ready, and keep the old account open for a couple of days while senders catch up.

Check first whether anyone depends on a calendar or a mail app, because those stay behind. For access rules on shared addresses, read [shared inbox vs group email](https://lotsmail.to/blog/shared-inbox-vs-group-email).

LotsMail is not for bulk, marketing or cold email.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which Fastmail alternative fits a business team on its own domain?

It depends on what you pay for. If you want everyone on your own domain for one price, LotsMail charges per domain, from $5 a month on Starter, with unlimited mailboxes and people. If you want a calendar and mail apps, Fastmail, Google Workspace and Zoho Mail all cover that and charge per user. Migadu and Purelymail charge per account instead.

### Is Fastmail good for business email?

Yes. Fastmail's own pricing page lists calendars, contacts, shared addresses like support@ on Basic, Standard and Professional, and third-party app access on Standard and Professional. Its business page says it gives everyone a professional address on your domain and offers a 30-day trial with no credit card. Fastmail charges per user.

### How much does Fastmail cost for a team of 10?

On Fastmail Standard, checked on 4 Nov 2026, that is $5 per user a month on yearly billing, so $50 a month ($600 for the year), or $6 per user on monthly billing, so $60 a month. Professional is $9 per user on yearly billing and $10 monthly. Fastmail's Basic plan does not include a custom domain.

### Can I use LotsMail with Outlook or Apple Mail?

No. LotsMail does not connect to desktop or phone mail apps over IMAP and SMTP. It works in the browser on phone, tablet and computer, and with ChatGPT or Claude. If you live in a mail app, Fastmail is the better fit.

### Does LotsMail have a calendar?

No. LotsMail has no calendar. If your team needs shared calendars next to email, pick Fastmail, Google Workspace or Zoho Mail, or keep your calendar in a separate tool.

### Can I move my old mail into LotsMail?

Yes, from Gmail, Google Workspace, Zoho, Yahoo or any host with IMAP, using the old address and an app password, through Console, Mailboxes, Import mail. Microsoft 365 and Outlook.com can't be imported. Drafts, Spam and Trash are not copied, so keep your old account open for a couple of days after you switch.
