The best Zoho Mail alternative depends on what you want to change. If you want everyone and every role address on your domain without counting seats, LotsMail charges one price per domain ($5 a month on Starter). If you want a full suite, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 price per user. Fastmail and Proton are independent per-user providers, and Migadu and Purelymail charge one flat price per account.
Zoho Mail is hard to beat on entry price. Mail Lite is $1 a user a month with 5 GB, billed yearly, and its Forever Free plan hosts one domain for up to 5 users. For a team of one to four people, that's less than LotsMail. People look for alternatives for other reasons: a bill that still grows with every person, a free plan without mail apps, or a team that wants shared inboxes with access set per mailbox and an AI assistant that works inside them.
I opened every provider's own pricing page on 20 October 2026 (LotsMail rechecked on 26 October 2026). Prices are US dollars per month before tax unless I say otherwise, and I list what each one charges for, what you get for it and who it fits. Sources are at the end.

1. LotsMail: one price per domain, unlimited mailboxes
LotsMail is business email on your own domain, priced per domain, not per person. I built it for agencies and growing teams who want every person and every role address on the domain without a seat count, and an inbox their AI assistant can work in safely.
- One price per domain. Starter is $5 a month or $50 a year for 1 domain, Pro is $20 or $200 for 5 domains and Business is $60 or $600 for 20 domains, with white-label on every domain. On every plan each domain gets unlimited mailboxes and people, 10 GB of shared storage and 1,000 outbound deliveries a month; add-ons for more are on the pricing page. Extra domains cost your plan's rate, or skip the plan and pay as you go at $6 per domain a month from LotsTech Credits. Pricing explained.
- Unlimited mailboxes, addresses and teammates on every plan. Hire, add support@ and orders@, give a contractor a mailbox: the bill stays the same.
- Shared inboxes with access per mailbox. Create a team inbox like support@ and choose who can open it as a reader, a sender or a manager. Nobody shares a password, and private mailboxes stay private, even from the workspace owner.
- Agencies: a workspace per client, each with its own domains and mailboxes. Client staff sign in as mailbox users, free and unlimited, without a LotsTech account, and the agency can't read client mail unless it's given access to a mailbox.
- Keep your DNS and website where they are. Add the records LotsMail shows and point mail to it when you're ready. SPF, DKIM and DMARC are checked for you, and every send shows its delivery status.
- A full inbox in the browser on phone, tablet and desktop: threads, search, drafts, sent, archive and attachments.
- If a payment lapses, sending stops at once, incoming mail keeps arriving for 14 days and then pauses, and your mail is never deleted.
What you give up compared with Zoho: desktop and phone mail apps (Outlook, Apple Mail over IMAP and SMTP) are coming soon in LotsMail and there is no calendar; Zoho's paid plans have mail apps and calendar today, and Zoho has its own migration tools. LotsMail does let an owner or admin import old mail into a mailbox over IMAP with an app password, from Zoho, Gmail, Google Workspace, Yahoo or any host that offers IMAP; calendar and contacts aren't imported. There's no free plan: new accounts get 5,000 free credits, valid 90 days, no card. LotsMail is for normal business email, never newsletters, marketing or cold email.
ChatGPT or Claude in the inbox
Zoho connects to AI agents through Zoho MCP, so this isn't something only LotsMail does. The LotsMail approach is access you set per mailbox. Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any MCP client to https://api.lotsmail.to/mcp and sign in. For each mailbox you choose whether the assistant may read and search, write drafts, or send; sending is off until you turn it on, and drafts wait for you. There's no built-in AI and no model costs: LotsMail works with the AI agent you already use.
In LotsMail, read support@ and list the customer emails from the last seven days that still need a reply, oldest first. Draft a reply to each one and leave them in Drafts.
Setup for each assistant is on the connect page. Domains, DNS, team access and billing stay in the dashboard, which does the whole job on its own too.
Choose LotsMail if you have several people or role addresses on a domain (or many client domains), want shared inboxes with access per mailbox, and are happy in a browser inbox while mail apps arrive.
2. Google Workspace: the suite most teams compare against
Google Workspace Business Starter is $7 a user a month with a one-year commitment, Business Standard $14 and Business Plus $22. Starter includes 30 GB of pooled storage per user, Standard 2 TB and Plus 5 TB, and the Business plans go up to 300 users. You get Gmail with Calendar, Meet, Drive and Docs, and each user can have up to 30 email aliases at no extra cost. If you're moving off Zoho because you want office apps and video meetings with your email, this is the obvious step up. I compared it with LotsMail in detail in LotsMail vs Google Workspace.
Choose Google Workspace if your team works in Docs, Drive and Meet every day.
3. Microsoft 365: Outlook and Office, per user
Microsoft 365 Business Basic is $7.00 a user a month paid yearly, or $8.40 on a monthly subscription. It includes custom business email, web and mobile Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Teams, 1 TB of cloud storage per user and AI chat, for up to 300 users. Business Standard ($14.00 a user a month paid yearly) adds the desktop apps. There's a one-month free trial, with a card required. I compared it with LotsMail in detail in LotsMail vs Microsoft 365.
Choose Microsoft 365 if your team or your clients live in Outlook and Office.
4. Fastmail: independent email with calendar
Fastmail's business plans are Basic ($3 a user a month yearly, $4 monthly), Standard ($5 or $6) and Professional ($9 or $10). Custom business addresses on your domain and third-party apps like Outlook and iPhone Mail start on Standard, with 60 GB per user. Every business plan has shared addresses like support@, shared calendars and a shared address book, and you can try it free for up to 30 days.
Choose Fastmail if you want an independent provider with calendar and mail-app support, priced per person.
5. Proton Mail for Business: privacy first
Proton prices per user, billed yearly: Mail Essentials $6.99 (15 GB, 3 custom domains, 10 addresses per user), Workspace Standard $12.99 (1 TB, 15 domains, 20 addresses) and Workspace Premium $19.99 (3 TB, 20 domains, Lumo AI chat and an email writing assistant). Every plan works with Outlook, Thunderbird and Apple Mail, includes calendar and migration, and has a 14-day free trial.
Choose Proton if encrypted email is your first requirement and your domain count fits the plan.
6. Migadu: flat price per account, built with agencies in mind
Migadu charges per account, not per mailbox or domain. Micro is $19 a year (yearly only, 5 GB, 20 outgoing messages a day), Mini $9 a month or $90 a year (30 GB, 100 a day), Standard $29 or $290 (100 GB, 500 a day) and Maxi $99 or $990 (500 GB, 2,000 a day). Addresses are unlimited, and its FAQ says many users are agencies hosting client domains under one account. Limits are shared by every domain and mailbox on the account. You get SMTP, IMAP and POP3 plus webmail.
Choose Migadu if you want a low flat price with mail apps and your combined daily sending fits the plan.
7. Purelymail: the lowest flat price, for technical users
Purelymail costs $10 a year, with no hard limits on users, custom domains or storage; if you use much more than $10 a year in resources, you may need its per-resource advanced pricing. You get IMAP, POP3 and SMTP plus webmail.
Choose Purelymail if you're comfortable setting up mail yourself and the lowest price matters most.
8. Namecheap Private Email: mailboxes bundled with your domain
Namecheap sells Private Email in bundles of mailboxes, billed yearly or every two years. Launch is $14.88 a year for one mailbox, and the Expand and Scale plans bundle 3 and 5 mailboxes, with extra mailboxes at an extra yearly price. Plans include webmail and calendar, IMAP, SMTP and POP3, and an AI email assistant, and every plan starts with a 30-day free trial that converts to an annual plan.
Choose Namecheap Private Email if your domains are already at Namecheap and you need only a few mailboxes.
When to stay on Zoho Mail
Stay if you're a small team and price per person is what matters most: Mail Lite at $1 a user a month (billed yearly) is the lowest per-user price here, and the Forever Free plan covers up to 5 users on one domain if you can live without mail apps. Zoho's paid plans also include mail apps, calendar and a migration tool today, and its Workplace plans ($3 a user a month yearly or $4 monthly for Standard) add Zoho's office apps. If that's your situation, moving to save money doesn't add up. For the two side by side on team cost, shared inboxes, mail apps and AI access, see LotsMail vs Zoho Mail.

FAQ
What is the best alternative to Zoho Mail?
It depends on why you're leaving. For several people or role addresses on one domain, LotsMail charges one price per domain ($5 a month on Starter) with unlimited mailboxes. For office apps with email, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 start at $7 a user a month on yearly billing. For a flat price across many domains, Migadu and Purelymail charge per account.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Zoho Mail?
For a small team, rarely. Zoho Mail Lite is $1 a user a month billed yearly, and the Forever Free plan covers up to 5 users on one domain (checked 20 October 2026). Purelymail at $10 a year and Migadu Micro at $19 a year are flat per account, so they can cost less once you have several people.
Does Zoho Mail have a monthly plan?
Not for its mail-only plans. On 20 October 2026, Zoho's pricing page showed Mail Lite and Mail Premium as billed annually with no monthly plan. Workplace Standard and Workplace Professional are offered monthly at $4 and $7 a user, or $3 and $6 a user billed annually.
Does Zoho Mail's free plan include IMAP?
No. Zoho's Forever Free plan hosts email for one domain with up to 5 users and 5 GB per user, but IMAP, POP and ActiveSync are not included, and it's available only in select data centers. Paid plans include mail apps.
Can ChatGPT or Claude work with Zoho Mail or LotsMail?
Both connect to AI agents. Zoho MCP lists Zoho Mail among its apps and works with Claude, GPT and other agents. LotsMail has its own MCP server where you choose read, draft or send access for each mailbox, and sending by agents is off until you turn it on.
Can I keep my domain if I move away from Zoho Mail?
Yes. Your domain doesn't belong to your email provider. With LotsMail you keep your DNS provider and website, add the records shown, and point mail to LotsMail when ready. LotsMail can also import your old mail from Zoho over IMAP with an app password; the import only reads, so Zoho keeps its copy, and calendar and contacts aren't imported. Keep your Zoho account until you've checked that everything you need is in LotsMail.
